New Permits Issued for 1545 W Thomas Street in Noble Square

Permits have officially been issued for the forthcoming residential development at 1545 W Thomas Street in Noble Square. YIMBY previously reported on this property when it was rezoned in December 2021. As confirmed by the issued permit this construction will be a three-story masonry build with three total dwelling units, each of which will be completely outfitted with both front and rear decks. There are plans for two units with three bedrooms, and one unit will contain four bedrooms. The building will have a finished basement and a rooftop deck as well as a three-car carport at the rear.

City Council Approves Residential Development At 3431 N Ashland Avenue In Lake View

The Chicago City Council has approved the rezoning for a residential development at 3431 N Ashland Avenue in Lake View. The project which YIMBY recently covered will be replacing the existing Loyola Press building as part of a larger project filling up the block just north of the CTA Brown Line. Developer 3443 N Ashland LLC partnered with Studio Dwell Architects on the new multi-part development which began with the nearly complete 3421 N Ashland Avenue directly south.

The Insect Asylum Finds a Home at 2870 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Avondale

Chicago is gaining a new museum in Avondale called the Insect Asylum. This unique concept is described on their Instagram page by its founder, Nina Salem as “an artistic display of over 24,000 taxidermy insects ranging from 1910- 2022.” Salem has been amassing this collection and showing it around Chicago at various pop-ups and events for roughly five years. The collection is almost entirely vintage and has been ethically sourced by Salem herself in conjunction with entomologist as well as member donations.
