The tower crane has now been installed for 920 N Wells Street in Near North Side, where Chicago-based developer JDL has planned an 18-story mixed-use building. This structure is the first stepping stone in a massive new development known as North Union, occupying 8.1 acres on property formerly owned by the Moody Bible Institute. Bolstered by JDL’s partnership with Square Mile Capital and Intercontinental Real Estate, North Union will provide six million square feet of new floor space (equivalent to roughly 1.5 Willis Towers), 2,656 residential units, a wide range of commercial spaces, and over 100,000 square feet of public areas. With its tallest tower approaching 700 feet, the $1.3 billion scheme will shift the northern skyline’s center of gravity further west.

The National Museum of Gospel Music Planned for 3301 S Indiana Avenue In Bronzeville

The Pilgrim Baptist Church located at 3301 S Indiana Avenue in Bronzeville has received another infusion of much-needed funding for the upcoming National Museum of Gospel Music. The church, which was originally built as a synagogue by Adler & Sullivan in 1891, is sited at the intersection of S Indiana Avenue and E 33rd Street. The Baptist congregation purchased the building in 1921 where it was to become the the birthplace of Gospel.

A permit was issued this past Thursday for a three-story residential building with a masonry facade at 6444 S Evans Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood. Dajuan Robinson of DNA Construction & Consulting is listed as the owner of the proposed project. The build details three total dwelling units each outfitted with a rear deck, a fenced-in yard, and a three-car parking pad. The lot is currently vacant.

Construction Advances for Shops at Big Deahl Development in Clybourn Corridor

Significant construction progress can be seen for Structured Development‘s Shops at Big Deahl masterplan, situated on an elbow-shaped property in Near North Side’s Clybourn Corridor area. This $250 million, four-building development is already a quarter complete, having completed three-story climbing gym called Movement Lincoln Park in 2021. With Power Construction as the general contractor, the remaining three buildings are now rising in tandem, and will serve as a new mixed-use hub for the primarily retail and residential neighborhood. As part of the developer’s plans for the site, there will also be a small urban park at the south end with greenery, terraces, and seating areas.

Zoning Filed For Multi-Tower Development At 509 N Union Avenue in West Town

Developer Shapack Partners has filed a zoning application for a multi-tower development to be located at 509 N Union Avenue in West Town. Alec and Jennifer Litowitz are attached to the project as capital partners. The recently purchased land is an assemblage of sites and will total approximately 3.25 acres. The parcels were purchased over a six-year span beginning in late 2016. Shapack Partners is teaming up with New York-based ODA as well as Eckenhoff Saunders Architects to bring the design to life.
