The Chicago City Council has approved the rezoning of a mixed-used development at 201 S Kedzie Avenue in East Garfield Park. The project dubbed ‘Garfield Green’ recently received its Plan Commission approval and will be located across two empty lots on the corner with S Fifth Avenue and split into two phases. Developer Preservation of Affordable Housing worked with Perkins + Will as well as Nia Architects on the design which takes height cues from the adjacent Marshall Metro High School.

New Permits Issued for 5366 S Laramie Avenue in Garfield Ridge

A permit was issued this week for a two-story residential building with a frame slab at 5366 Laramie Avenue in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood. The proposed project’s owner is listed as Chi Partners LLC Lockwood Laramie Series. The scope of the project details 16 total dwelling units. Plans indicate the presence of a five-foot-tall wooden fence, a trash enclosure, and a 24-vehicle parking pad at the rear of the building site. The lot is currently vacant.

City Of Chicago Launches Study Of Clark Street Retail Corridor

The City of Chicago has launched a new study to determine the future of N Clark Street in Sheridan Park, Winnemac, and Andersonville. The project led by the Department of Planning and Development along with the Uptown and Andersonville Chambers of Commerce will analyze the future of the commercial corridor as retail and dining experiences continue to change and evolve. Dubbed ‘Clark Street Crossroads,’ the stretch from W Montrose Avenue to the south up and W Foster Avenue to the north currently has a pedestrian street designation similar to the recently approved designation in the West Loop.

Directly across from the rapidly developing UI Health Outpatient Center, the new UI Health Welcome Atrium at 1740 W Taylor Street can also be seen making extensive progress in the Illinois Medical District. This new two-story glass-clad lobby attaches directly to the hospital’s main building, and has been designed with several purposes in mind. According to an overview on UI Health’s website, the new addition will “improve access, circulation, and wayfinding for patients, visitors, and staff,” while also strengthening brand and image for the hospital and creating a sense of comfort and security for visitors.
