Foundation work is currently in progress at 1723 S Michigan Avenue in the South Loop neighborhood, ranking as the 24th project in our year-end countdown of tallest construction developments. Under development by CMK Companies, the 13-story residential building will provide 149 apartment units and a parking garage with capacity for 98 vehicles.
A new tenant has been revealed for the long vacant Treasure Island grocery store building at 1639 N Wells Street in Old Town. Located just north of the intersection with W North Avenue, the large space is part of the larger area redevelopment led by Chicago-based Fern Hill. The building will receive a facelift led by GREC Architects who are working on the tower next door.
The City of Chicago has issued permits for a renovation and expansion project at 2516 W Thomas Street in Humboldt Park. Submitted on August 31, 2022, the permit was approved on November 30, 2023, following an extensive 456-day review process.
Climbing to the 25th place on our 2023 countdown is the residential development at 1630 S Wabash Avenue in the South Loop. Located just south of the intersection with E 16th Street, the project replaces a long-time vacant lot across the street from Anderson Park. Though no formal renderings have been revealed, it is being led by CMK Companies with Pappageorge Haymes serving as the designer.
A new Hampton Inn & Suites hotel, located at 710 S Seeley Avenue in the Illinois Medical District, has begun the installation of brick exterior cladding at its base. This 135-room project, overseen by East Lake Management, is part of the larger Gateway mixed-use plan, which includes the now-complete Cadence Apartments and two single-story retail buildings.
