City Council Approves Rezoning For 43Green Phase II In Bronzeville

The Chicago City Council has approved the rezoning for the mixed-use development at 301 E 43rd Street in Bronzeville. Located on the southeast corner with S Prairie Avenue, the proposal replaces an existing commercial building with the second phase of the 43Green project for which Chicago YIMBY was able to speak with the architects last month. Developers P3 Markets and The Habitat Company are working with local designers Moody Nolan and Landon Bone Baker on the new affordable structure.

Permits were issued recently for a new three-story residential building located at 2426 W Augusta Boulevard in the West Town neighborhood. The lot is currently unoccupied. The permit owner is listed as Angelo Laskaris, and the plans indicate that the scope of the project will include three total units and a basement level. As the sixth entry in our Dead by Design series, the Chicago Spire was a proposed 150-story “megatall” skyscraper that was to be located at the mouth of the Chicago River in Streeterville. At 2,000 feet in height, it would have been the tallest building in the United States and the third-tallest building in the world (soon to be fourth with the incoming completion of Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur).

Full permits have been issued for the RIU Plaza Hotel Chicago at 150 E Ontario Street in Streeterville. Located just east of the intersection with N Michigan Avenue, developer The Prime Group broke ground on the new tower earlier this year, replacing an empty lot. The property will be run by Spain-based RIU Hotels and is being designed by local architecture firm Lucien LaGrange Studio, who recently merged with Lamar Johnson Collaborative.
