The quickly rising tower dubbed ‘The Reed’ at 234 W Polk Street in the South Loop takes the 11th place in 2021’s year-end countdown. The 41-story residential structure will rise 447 feet tall on the banks of the Chicago River as part of the greater Southbank development led by Lendlease and designed by Perkins + Will. The project joins ‘The Cooper’, an adjacent rental building which was the development’s first completed design.
With scaffolding now removed and final facade and interior touches underway, we now have a final picture of the six-story 1123 W Randolph Street development in West Loop. Planned by Interra Realty at the corner of Randolph Street and May Street, this mixed-use mid-rise is poised to accommodate retail space on the first two floors and nine apartment units on the remaining four floors.
A demolition permit was issued last week for a two-story multi-unit frame residence along with a detached frame garage located at 2414 W Belle Plaine Avenue in the North Center neighborhood. The permit’s owners have been listed as Enya Real Estate Investments.
Rising rapidly in the Fulton River District, 354 N Union Avenue claims the 12th place in Chicago YIMBY’s year-end countdown. The 33-story residential tower will stand 410 feet and house a total of 373 rental units. Planned by Onni Development Group, unit sizes will range from a 400-square-foot studio up to a 1,600-square-foot three-bedroom penthouse.
The Chicago Plan Commission has approved a new residential development at 4737 N Sheridan Road in Uptown. The developer behind the project is the non-profit organization Sarah’s Circle with Perkins + Will as the architect on the new structure that replaces an empty lot on the corner with W Lakeside Place. The new facility dubbed ‘Sarah’s on Lakeside’ is only a block away from two other properties operated by the organization.
