A new construction permit was issued yesterday for a two-story residential building at 2842 W 23rd Street in the South Lawndale neighborhood. TA Development LLC is listed as the permit owner and plans indicate this project will yield three total units, a basement, and a three-car parking area at the rear of the building. There will be a basement level and a two-story deck complete with stairs. The project will replace a vacant lot. Stern Group Architects is listed as the architects of record.
The City of Chicago has completed the first round of community presentations for the final three casino bids. Earlier this year in March news broke of the mayor selecting the three sites with the first community meetings beginning early in April, this ruled out the Bally’s and Rivers McCormick Place bids, leaving us with Bally’s Tribune, Hard Rock’s One Central, and Rivers The 78 as the remaining choices. While the meetings were to educate the public and answer any questions, they riled up some controversies among local community groups. Recordings of the presentations can be found here.
With all structural work complete and much of the facade now in place, the seven-story parking and retail structure at 1371 W Randolph Street is now approaching completion. Rising 85 feet, this West Loop project is the latest addition to the Chicago Journeyman Plumbers Local 130 UA Campus, developed in partnership between the union and Chicago Title & Trust Company.
Late last week the Chicago Women in Architecture (CWA) and The Chicago Women in Architecture Foundation (CWAF) announced the recipients of the 2022 CWAF Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as the announcements of two inaugural awards: the Broken Glass Award and the Emerging Leader Award. According to the announcement, each program honors Chicago women architects at varying stages in their careers who have “played pivotal roles in advancing the profession through resolute leadership, mentorship, design excellence, and advocacy.” Each honoree has been selected for the caliber of their work, as well as the impact on the greater architectural community.
Structural work has now passed the seventh floor for 160 N Elizabeth Street, a 27-story mixed-use tower rising along the Randolph Street corridor in West Loop. Developer Moceri + Roszak has planned for 9,000 square feet of retail and 375 apartment units. Of this programming, 1,800 square feet of retail and 75 apartments will be affordable under ARO.
