The Tower Crane Is Coming Down From The 400 Lake Shore North Tower

Work began Wednesday to take the tower crane down from the 400 Lake Shore North Tower at the mouth of the Chicago River in Streeterville. Morrow Equipment, who have been on site for each crane jump as well as the full assembly, got started early Wednesday morning, removing some of the counterweights before removing the first section of Liebherr 420 EC-H 16 and lowering it to the ground.

400 Lake Shore Opens 2026 Ready To Pour The 66th Floor

The 66th floor is ready to pour at the 72-story 400 Lake Shore North Tower on the doomed Chicago Spire site in Streeterville. Weather hasn’t been particularly kind over the past few weeks, slowing progress down a bit. But crews from LR Contracting and BOWA construction continue to plug away, and they’re now just a handful of stories from topping out. There is exterior glass wrapping the tower up to but not yet completing the 47th floor.

Three Up, Three To Go: 400 Lake Shore Completes Its Third Tower Crane Jump

The construction teams at 400 Lake Shore jumped the tower crane once again this past weekend, adding six more shiny yellow sections to Chicago’s highest rig. The crane was last extended in May, and will rise in three more stages before it ultimately tops out. A half-dozen sections will be added during the next two climbs, while the sixth and final extension will add five.
