New Transcontinental Rail Route Announced Through Chicago

Three of the largest rail providers in North America have announced a new partnership for service across Canada, The United States, and Mexico. The new partnership made up of Canada National (CN), Union Pacific Railroad (UP), and Grupo Mexico Transportes (GMXT) will become the second to ever serve the three countries and will use Chicago as its main interchange point.

Exterior work continues to progress on the Victor F. Lawson House, a historic 24-story building at 30 W Chicago Avenue in the Near North Side. Originally designed by Perkins, Chatten & Hammond and completed in 1931, the former YMCA will be transformed by developer Holsten Real Estate into 408 affordable studio apartments. Since the last article on the project, structural work for the new fire egress and elevator towers has taken shape, while windows and facade restorations continue.

Filed under 1065 N Paulina LLC, the building will come with a rooftop deck, a rooftop stair enclosure, a rear porch on the first floor, rear decks on the second and third floors, a basement, and a three-vehicle detached garage with a rooftop deck. The project will replace a two-story gabled masonry residence, which received a demolition permit last month.

Located at 4445 W Irving Park Road, the four-story structure occupies a full city block bordered by W Irving Park Road, N Kenneth Avenue, and N Kilbourn Avenue. The 160,000-square-foot facility is set to offer a variety of outpatient services, including cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, imaging, immediate care, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, physical therapy, primary care, and urology.

Sale Announced For Downtown Greyhound Station

The main Chicago Greyhound bus station at 630 W Harrison Street in the Near West Side has been put up for sale for redevelopment. Located on the corner with S Jefferson Street near downtown, it is bound on the north and west sides by the newly redesigned circle interchange and is one of multiple Greyhound stops in the city. After switching hands a few times in the last years, the site has now been listed by Texas-based CBRE in a move that similarly led to the sale of the Greyhound facility where Halsted Pointe is set to rise.
