A new construction permit was issued by the City of Chicago on March 30 to replace a drive-thru bank at 3600 North Southport Avenue in Lake View with a residential building. Derrig Management is the recipient of the permit, which had been pending in the Chicago Data Portal since October 29 of last year. It came through with a reported cost of six million dollars.
Plans for a new mixed-use development at 1040 West Belmont Avenue in Lake View are moving forward, as a zoning application has been submitted. Located near the intersection with North Kenmore Avenue, the proposal would replace a one-story commercial building currently occupied by Giordano’s Pizza near the CTA Belmont station.
It took some time to get started, but now progress on a new condo building on West Briar Place in Lake View has risen to its top floor. GVP Development got a foundation permit for 453 West Briar Place way back in November 2023. After purchasing and demolishing a pair of homes on adjacent lots, a full permit was issued on May 21,2024. The site remained idle for awhile before coming back to life when site prep began in November 2024.
Updated plans have been revealed for the proposed mixed-use development at 2800 North Sheridan Road in Lake View. Just under a month ago, we covered the project’s initial plans along West Diversey Parkway. Now, the team has returned with added density and additional uses to improve the streetfront—an approach that has become uncommon as of late.
Concrete block has reached the fourth level for the residential development next to the Belmont CTA platform at 919 West Belmont Avenue in Lake View. That’s where Mavrek Development is erecting a five-story, 46-unit building marketed as Belmora. There’s also a brief glimpse of brickwork at street level on the structure’s east façade.
