A permit issued on August 27 allows BAK HOME Development to erect a three-story plus basement, four-unit condominium building at 1517 West School Street in Lake View. The permit came through 58 days after its application start date of June 30, and it includes a reported cost of two million dollars.
Three demolition permits were issued on July 30 to tear down the Torstenson Glass buildings on North Sheffield Avenue in Lake View, and work is now underway to raze two of them. 3233 North Sheffield, considered by many to be the best of the lot, is still intact, but 3241 and 3247 North Sheffield are both in varied states of ruin. Apex Construction Group is the demolition contractor on the job.
Plans have been revealed for a new mixed-use development at 2858 North Halsted Street in Lake View. Located at the intersection with West George Street, the project would replace a single-story commercial building, along with its rear patio, currently occupied by the George Street Pub.

When we visited the site on Saturday, little remained of the structure, which was permitted for demolition on July 10, but the front wall and sides as Brophy Excavation continues to raze the property from the rear forward.
