Work continues to make significant progress for the Chicago Transit Authority’s Red-Purple Bypass project, a major infrastructure project to improve efficiency for the L lines in Lake View.
Facade work is drawing towards completion for a four-story residential building known as The Grace Apartments, located at 957 W Grace Street and 3763 N Sheffield Avenue in Lake View. MCZ Development is behind the 50-unit project, whose completed has been staggered across two separate phases. The already-completed portion houses 40 of the units, while the remaining 10 are in a still-in-progress wing located at the southern end. These two phases occupied separate parcels of land, for which the developer received approval to combine by the Committee on Zoning, Landmarks, and Building standards.
Demolition permits have been issued for three masonry buildings located at 3415-25 N Ashland Avenue in Lake View. Developed by Contemporary Concepts in partnership with Wildwood Investments, the replacing project will be a four-story residential building, with a total of 53 units ranging from studios to two-bedrooms. Five of these units will be affordable housing under the city’s Affordable Requirements Ordinance.
Structural work has reached the third floor of 1039-41 W Belmont Avenue, a four-story mixed-use building currently underway in Lake View. Cumin Restaurant is the occupying owner, filed under the name Kathmandu Properties in the original construction permit. The new structure will replace a former two-story masonry building that received demolition permits in May 2019.
Construction has topped out for Broadway Youth Center, a five-story interdisciplinary youth center located at 1023 W Irving Park Road in Lake View. The development will completely replace a former, partially-complete construction project that was abandoned by the previous developer.
