The Commission on Chicago Landmarks has approved a new residential development 4543 S Ellis Avenue in North Kenwood. Located on an unusually wide Chicago lot within a row of historical stone homes north of E 46th Street, the small project is being developed by Exbud LLC and designed by AP Architects. Due to being within the North Kenwood Historic District, the project needed to take into consideration its surroundings and fit in within the site context.

A permit was issued yesterday for a new three-story residential building at 6343 S Drexel Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood. The owner is listed as JPK Investments LLC, and plans indicate this project will yield six total dwelling units with front balconies, replacing a previously vacant lot. The rear of the building will be outfitted with a three-story metal staircase. The exterior will include a wooden trash enclosure and an accompanying five-foot-tall fence. The plans also indicate the presence of six parking spaces on site.

Initial plans have been revealed for a new mixed-use development at 1300 W Carroll Avenue in the West Loop. The site on the northwest corner with N Elizabeth Street was once home to the ADM flour mill which developer Sterling Bay recently demolished after acquiring it for $25 million in 2020. Working with designers SOM, the new design is an update from the conceptual placeholder we had seen previously as a part of the 1200 W Carroll development, and is nearby other major projects such as 400 N Elizabeth and the recently started 160 N Elizabeth.
