Conversion work is wrapping up for 910 W Randolph Street in the Fulton Market district. The listed owner Christian Chavez and occupying owner Stephen Wall are planning to transform the former two-story retail building into a new restaurant venue for Chicago’s third Velvet Taco. The current owners had bought the 4,600-square-foot structure in January 2020 for a reported cost of $1.75 million.
Construction permits were issued this week for a new three-story residential building slated for 4035 S Calumet Avenue in Bronzeville. Owned by Pamela McCarthy, the new six-unit project will come with rear open decks, fencing around the property, a trash enclosure, and six spaces on a concrete parking slab. Prior to development, the parcel was occupied by a vacant grass lot.
The Community Development Commission has approved $6 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) money for the development of Park Boulevard Phase 3B located at 3603 S Federal Street in Bronzeville. Part of the larger Park Boulevard community, the project is the next step in redeveloping the site of the former Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) Stateway Gardens housing projects. The overall property is bound by W 35th Street to the north, S State Street to the east, W 39th Street to the south, and the Metra tracks to the west. This portion of the plan is oriented along S Federal Street anchoring the stretch between W 35th Street and W 37th Street at each end. Stateway Associates LLC is the developer behind the project.
