Details have been revealed for a new mixed-use development at 3122 W Belmont Avenue in Avondale. Located on the corner with the Kennedy Expressway and adjacent Metra tracks, the project will be replacing a small vacant lot with a wedged corner. Efforts for the project are being led by local developer Lukaven Development, who normally works on single-family homes.
What looks like it could be an uber-modern single-family home you see rising on the corner of Kimball and Barry Avenues in Avondale is a CTA substation for the Blue Line trains. Addressed by the city as 3501 West Barry Avenue, the substation is just one block south of the Belmont Blue Line subway station.
A demolition permit has been issued to tear down Our Lady of Fatima Church at 3051 North Christiana Avenue in the Avondale neighborhood. The City of Chicago issued the permit Monday, October 28. So far, there are no signs of demo preparation at the church. Built in 1956, it was initially part of St. Hyacinth Basilica, located about half a mile west on Wolfram Street.

Located just west of the intersection with California Avenue, developer Wilmot Properties is bringing 24 rental units to the neighborhood in a five-story, two-toned brick structure. The project will include office space and a 24-car garage on the ground floor, according to the construction permit issued by the City of Chicago on December 26 of last year.
