Plans have been revealed for the residential redevelopment of the large vacant site at 3265 North California Avenue in Avondale. Located just north of the intersection with West Belmont Avenue, the L-shaped lot sits half a block from Brands Park near the Chicago River. The project is being led by a local development team operating under the name Cal-Melrose LLC.
A permit has been issued by the City of Chicago to construct a new daycare facility at 2824 North Elston Avenue in Avondale. Children’s Land, which operates 11 suburban locations and one in Chicago, filed to build in January of this year, with the permit coming through on September 9. It includes a reported cost of $1.9 million.
A renovation permit issued for the property at 3329 North Whipple Street in Avondale will do the work normally requiring a demolition permit and permission for new construction. A three-story, three-unit residence is planned for the site, but first, the garage next door that crosses the lot line will be torn down.
A permit has been issued to replace an 1898-built frame home at 3642 West Oakdale Avenue in Avondale with four new residential units. Manicorp, Inc of West Town received the permit on August 19 after filing an application back in May 2024. It came through with a reported cost of $600,000.
Plans have been revealed for a mixed-use development at 2955 West Belmont Avenue in Avondale. Located on the southwest corner of North Sacramento Avenue, the new building would replace three existing structures with ground-floor commercial space. The project is being led by DV Development LLC and Hanna Architects.
