A demolition permit has been issued to tear down Our Lady of Fatima Church at 3051 North Christiana Avenue in the Avondale neighborhood. The City of Chicago issued the permit Monday, October 28. So far, there are no signs of demo preparation at the church. Built in 1956, it was initially part of St. Hyacinth Basilica, located about half a mile west on Wolfram Street.
There are three pending permits for three single-family homes for the site on which the church and its surface parking lot now sit. The identical permits call for two-story with basement structures. Detached garages will contain two parking spaces and will be topped by roof decks. The Christiana Collection is listed as the developer.
Residents of the three new homes at 3051, 3055, and 3057 North Christiana Avenue will live within a two-block walk of the Belmont Blue Line subway station. CTA bus service via Routes 77 and 82 are also available within two blocks of the residences.

This should be higher density since it’s 2 blocks from the Blue Line station. I see there are both SFH and 3-story apartment buildings around it, so building something denser wouldn’t be out of place in the neighborhood.
I hope the developer gives someone the opportunity to salvage the interesting stone scupltures and other details from the exterior (and interior if there are any!).
