A demolition permit was approved last week to remove a two-story, mixed-use building along with a detached frame garage, located at 3457 N Milwaukee Avenue in the Avondale neighborhood. The permit’s owner has been listed as E and O Builders Inc.
The Chicago City Council has approved the rezoning for a new roastery and cafe at 3110 N Kedzie Avenue in Avondale. Located just north of the intersection with W Barry Avenue right off of the Kennedy Expressway, the shop would repurpose the existing one-story masonry structure that currently houses the Olde Chicago Antiques store. Local business Metric Coffee is behind the plan that has been in motion for a few months with local design firm En-Masse Architecture, previously known as Mike Shively Architecture, on the new outpost.
A permit was issued yesterday for the new construction of a four-story residential building at 2816 N Rockwell Street in the Avondale neighborhood. The owner of the permits is listed as J Development LLC, and the current plans indicate this project will yield a total of three dwelling units, a rooftop deck, and a detached four-car garage.
Chicago is gaining a new museum in Avondale called the Insect Asylum. This unique concept is described on their Instagram page by its founder, Nina Salem as “an artistic display of over 24,000 taxidermy insects ranging from 1910- 2022.” Salem has been amassing this collection and showing it around Chicago at various pop-ups and events for roughly five years. The collection is almost entirely vintage and has been ethically sourced by Salem herself in conjunction with entomologist as well as member donations.

The owner is listed as 3057 North Lawndale LLC, and the current plans indicate this project will yield a total of eight dwelling units. There will also be a detached eight-car garage. The lot is currently used for parking.
