Obama Presidential Center Nearing Vertical Construction in Jackson Park

With tower cranes now installed and foundation work well underway, the planned Obama Presidential Center is approaching vertical construction in Jackson Park. Planned by The Obama Foundation, the three-building master plan will house a museum revolving around the former president and his legacy, a community center known as The Forum, and a new branch of the Chicago Public Library. There will also be a parking garage directly to the south.

City to Host Community Input Talks on Proposed Englewood Nature Trail

The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) and Department of Planning and Development (DPD) are hosting a virtual community framework meeting on Thursday, June 9th at 6 pm for input on the proposed Englewood Nature Trail. The scope of the trail project involves the conversion of an unused railroad corridor in Englewood into a 1.75-mile multi-use path.

Plan Commission Approves Residential Development At 438 W Saint James Place In Lincoln Park

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved a new residential development at 438 W Saint James Place in Lincoln Park. Located just west of the intersection with N Lakeview Avenue near Lincoln Park and the lake, the new project will replace an existing stone-clad two-flat and hug the adjacent 13-story mid-rise. The unique proposal come to us from developer St. James Interest, LLC and is one of the two developments presented for Lincoln Park this month, bringing more density to the neighborhood which has seen plenty of population growth without much housing built.

UI Health Welcome Atrium Nears Completion in Illinois Medical District

Construction is nearing completion for the UI Health Welcome Atrium at 1740 W Taylor Street in the Illinois Medical District. Located directly across from UI Health’s new outpatient center, the two-story enclosure will attach to the main hospital building, providing a new lobby and wayfinding point for patients, visitors, and staff.

New Permits Issued for 57 N Menard Avenue in Austin

A permit was issued for the new construction of a two-story residential building at 57 N Menard Avenue in the Austin neighborhood. The owner is listed as A-Z Builders Inc, and the current plans show this project will have three units. The developer is erecting a sister build of similar scope on the neighboring lot. The facade will feature a front metal staircase and the rear of the building will be outfitted with metal porches. The site will include three parking stalls. The property is currently vacant.

Permits Issued for Rush Medical Center Expansion at 516 S Loomis Street

A full construction permit was issued this week for a new five-story medical building at 516 S Loomis Street in Little Italy. Named the Rush Specialty Hospital, the facility will further augment the Rush University Medical Campus, and will be located on the same block as the nearly completed Joan and Paul Rubschlager building. Between these two locations, there is a third site that will be able to support a future development with up to 855,000 square feet, nearly twice as much as the Roan and Paul Rubschlager building.

The permit’s owners have been listed as K Future Builders Inc. Per plans, the construction will be comprised of three total dwelling units. Plans also indicate the presence of a three-vehicle garage. The property lot is currently vacant.

The owner is listed as 841 W Lill LLC, and the current plans indicate this project will yield a total of two units. The building will have a basement and a roof deck, and the first floor will feature a private deck at the rear. There will also be a detached two-vehicle garage with pergolas. The development will replace an existing structure.

311 W Huron Preps for Imminent Groundbreaking in River North

Construction is set to begin in early June for a 16-story commercial building at 311 W Huron Street in River North. This retail and office building has been planned by North Wells Capital. This past February, the developer secured an $88 million lease with the anchor tenant Spins, who will occupy 48,000 square feet within the top three floors. The 226-foot-tall edifice will replace a former parking lot just west of the elevated CTA L tracks.

Foundation Work Advances for Park Boulevard Phase 3B in Bronzeville

Foundation work is progressing for Park Boulevard’s Phase 3B, comprised of two five-story residential buildings at 41 W 36th Street in Bronzeville. Replacing the former Chicago Housing Authority Stateway Gardens housing projects, this larger masterplan developed by Stateway Associates LLC will ultimately yield 1,316 residential units across both townhomes and apartments. This phase in particular will yield 80 total units, divided evenly into 40 per building.
