DPD Announces Finalist For Central Manufacturing District Redevelopment In McKinley Park

The Chicago Department of Planning and Development has announced the three finalists for the redevelopment of the city-owned warehouse at 1769 W Pershing Road in McKinley Park. Located slightly west of the intersection with S Ashland Avenue, the Request For Proposal (RFP) called for applicants to imagine a new use for the easternmost structure of the historical Central Manufacturing District. The RFP also allowed for the applicants to include an adjacent one-story industrial building and parking lot as well.

Construction Reaches Completion for 1044 W Van Buren Street in West Loop

Final touches are complete for a new 18-story mixed-use building at 1044 W Van Buren Street in West Loop. The 195-foot-tall tower is part of a growing high-rise node in West Loop, with multiple projects now at various stages of development. With Tandem as the developer, the project will house a total of 196 apartment units.

New Permits Issued for 6341 S Langley Avenue in Woodlawn

A permit was issued this week for a new two-story residential building located at 6341 S Langley Avenue in the Woodlawn neighborhood. Tom McNamara is listed as the owner of the proposed project. The build details two total dwelling units, a roof deck, a fenced-in yard, and a two-vehicle garage. The lot is currently vacant.

CA6 Condos Completes Exterior Construction in West Loop

Final touches can be seen at CA6, a seven-story residential development by Belgravia Group in West Loop. The project will provide 72 condominiums under the address 311 S Racine Avenue, replacing a former single-story dance center.

Residential Conversion Proposed For 153 W Ohio Street In River North

Initial plans have been revealed for the residential conversion of the existing commercial building at 153 W Ohio Street in River North. Located just west of the intersection with N LaSalle Street and across the street from the famed Ohio House Hotel, the project comes at a time where residential conversions are ramping up in the city including just down LaSalle Street. Local developer Senco Properties is leading the way with Chicago-based FitzGerald Associates working on the design.

Demolition Permits Issued for 7946 S Parnell Avenue in Chatham

A demolition permit was issued to remove a two-story frame building located at 7946 S Parnell Avenue in the Chatham neighborhood. Very few details have emerged as to any plans for future development. KLF Enterprises will be serving as the demolition contractor for the building.

Mixed-Use Development Proposed For 250 W 22nd Place In Chinatown

Plans have been revealed for the mixed-use development at 250 W 22nd Place in Chinatown. Located just west of the intersection with S Wentworth Avenue, the project comes at a time when Chicago’s Chinatown seems to be growing and maintaining its identity compared to others nationally. The proposal will replace the existing two-story Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA) building and its adjacent lots with a new singular structure. The development team is made up of the CCBA and the Michaels Development Company who have tapped WJW Architects for the design.

Construction Begins on “FlyOver” Indoor Ride Attraction at Navy Pier

With McHugh Construction leading the work as general contractor, construction has begun for a new indoor ride at Navy Pier called FlyOver (different from the Navy Pier Flyover infrastructure project), which will occupy 48,000 square feet. The project will occupy a 60-foot-high, 80-f0ot-wide volume of space that previously served as an IMAX theater.

New Affordable Housing Project at 1801 S Wabash Avenue in Near South Side

The Mayor’s office announced via press release a new affordable housing project located at 1801 S Wabash Avenue in the Near South Side at the corner of S Wabash Avenue and E 18th Street. According to the release, The Department of Housing has approved the $21 million bond for the new project which will reportedly consist of a gut rehab of a Single-Room Occupancy (SRO) building.

1000M Passes 400-Foot Mark in South Loop

Continuing its rapid ascension, structural work is now past the 400-foot mark for 1000M, a 74-story residential skyscraper in South Loop. At 788 feet in height, the project is being developed by JK Equities, Time Equities, and Oak Capitals. Pivoting from the 506 condominium units originally planned, the residences will now comprise 738 rental apartments.
