A groundbreaking ceremony has been held for the Sankofa Village Wellness Center at 4301 W Madison Street in West Garfield Park. Located on the corner with S Kildare Avenue, the project has been in the works for multiple years and will replace a vacant lot at the heart of the neighborhood. Work on the development has been led by The Garfield Park Rite to Wellness Collaborative.

New City Program Partially Funds New Affordable Housing Developments

Additional funding has been approved for two affordable housing projects as part of the city’s new bond program. This bond program was approved back in April, now the proposals at 1801 S Wabash Avenue and 4531 W Washington Boulevard will be the first to be financed by it. This first round of approvals will be contributing $20.5 million between the two.

Building Underway At 4305 West Madison Street In West Garfield Park

A permit for new construction has been issued for a mixed-use wellness center located at 4305 West Madison Street in West Garfield Park. The permit, which was applied for on September 27, 2023 and issued on July 19, allows for the construction of a three-story building with ground-floor retail, a gym, a community room, and medical office space on the second and third floors. The project also includes 20 parking spaces, two of which will be ADA-compliant.

Plan Commission Approves New CTA Training Center In West Garfield Park

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved the new Chicago Transit Authority consolidated control center at 335 N Pulaski Road in West Garfield Park. Located just north of the intersection with W Lake Street, the new structure will replace a large vacant lot and storage yard. Efforts for the project are being led by the Farpoint Development and the CTA, with Lamar Johnson Collaborative leading the design.
