Land Sale Approved For Wellness Center In West Garfield Park

The Chicago Community Development Commission has approved the land-sale for The Sankofa Village Wellness Center at 4301-4329 W Madison Street in West Garfield Park. Located on the southwestern corner with S Kildare Avenue a few blocks west of Garfield Park itself, the proposal will replace a vacant lot and a handful of existing buildings as well. Developer The Community Builders Inc. proposed the greater Sankofa Wellness Village project last year designed by local-firm Moody Nolan.

Permit Issued for New Roller Rink at 4012 W Madison Street in West Garfield Park

A construction permit has been granted for a new community roller rink and plaza located at 4012 W Madison Street in West Garfield Park. This public space will be managed by the Chicago Park District and will be replacing a vacant lot that had been used as a temporary rink and plaza in the past. The landscape architect for the project is Site Design Group.

Pritzker Foundation Announces Chicago Prize Finalist Across Neighborhoods

The initial finalists for the 2022 Pritzker Traubert Foundation Chicago Prize have been announced across various city neighborhoods. The new competition started this year by the foundation was created with the belief that all Chicagoans should have equal access to economic opportunity. The six finalists are vying for a $10 million award, as a part of a larger $30 million commitment to community development on the city’s south and west sides over the next five years according to their website.

Demolition permits were issued at the end of last week for the removal of a two-story multi-unit building located at 820 S Karlov Avenue in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. Leeway Wrecking Inc will be acting as the demolition contractor on this project. The property has been vacant for a prolonged period. At the time of this writing, no additional permits have been ordered at this property site.

New Permits Issued for 2658 W Maypole Avenue in East Garfield Park

A permit was approved yesterday for a new two-story residential building at 2658 W Maypole Avenue in the East Garfield Park neighborhood. The owner of the permit is listed as Nadeya Khalil, and the current plans indicate this project will yield two units. This will be a masonry build with a two-story open-frame porch at the rear. The permits also specify that new electric and water service will be included in the build. The lot is currently vacant.

Renovation permits have been issued for an existing four-story residential building located at 20 S Hamlin Boulevard in West Garfield Park. KEMT LLC is the listed owner of the currently unoccupied building. Plans include increasing the unit count from seven to eight, updated interior finishes, minor exterior site work, structural repairs and reinforcements, and new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.

The City of Chicago owns the property, which appears to have been vacant prior to its slated demolition. However, the exact nature of the reason for demolition was not specified.
