Plans have been revealed for the next phase of Malcolm X College’s West Side Learning Center at 4624 W Madison Street on the eastern edge of Austin. Located just west of the intersection with N Kenton Avenue and adjacent to a pair of elevated rail lines, the expansion would grow the class size for the small outpost of the college. The proposal is being developed by the college itself and the greater City Colleges as well, with an undisclosed architect working on its design.

The two-story building will feature a total of three apartment units with a basement level, front stairs and porch, a rear two-story deck, and stairs, as well as a side six-foot-tall wood fence, and a rear three-vehicle parking pad, as detailed in the plans. The project replaces what is currently a vacant lot. The listed owner of the project is A-Z Builders Inc., while the architect for the project is Andy Kacprzynski.

Contractor Awarded For Austin Green Line Station Reconstruction

In a wave of continuous improvements, the Chicago Transit Board has awarded the construction contract for the Austin Green Line Station. Located at 351 N Austin Boulevard within the Austin neighborhood, the project comes at a time when the Chicago Transit Authority is working on making all of its stations fully accessible by 2038. The project is being led by the CTA itself although an architect is currently unknown.

Groundbreaking Held For Community Business Hub In Austin

The city has broken ground on a new business development center at 5500 W Madison Avenue in Austin. Located on the northeast corner with N Central Avenue just north of Columbus Park, the new center will redevelop the now vacant Emmet Elementary School. The Invest South/West project is being developed by the team made up of Austin Coming Together, Jane Addams Resource Corp, and Westside Health Authority who are working with Lamar Johnson Collaborative on its design.
