The City of Chicago has authorized construction of a two-story with basement, three-unit residential building at 5736 West Huron Street in Austin. The application for the permit was filed on February 20, and it was issued on April 25. It shows a reported construction cost of $350,000.
GT Alternatives LLC is the developer and general contractor, with Peter Sterniuk named as the architect of record. Three parking spaces will be included in the project, with two stalls contained within a garage at the back of the lot and one outdoor space. No other details of the new building are mentioned. The construction fills a site that has been vacant since a two-story residence was permitted for demolition in 2010.

The team of GT Alternatives and Peter Sterniuk have collaborated often in this area of Austin. One block away, two multi-unit buildings of theirs in the 700 block of North Waller Avenue were permitted for construction in spring 2023. One block east of those, they built a three-unit home at 744 North Parkside Avenue in 2022, and another at 717 North Parkside last year. Like the latest project on Huron Street, all of those homes were built on vacant lots.

5736 West Huron Street is located within a two-block walk of CTA service via Route 85 buses to the east at Central Avenue, and Route 66 buses to the north at Chicago Avenue. Route 91 buses run north-south three blocks west on Austin Boulevard. Two Green Line elevated train platforms, Austin and Central, are within half-mile walks south.
