The Chicago Department of Planning and Development has recently approved the site plan for a new residential development at 1323 S Wood Street in the Illinois Medical District. Located on the northeast corner with W Hastings Street, the project replaces a vacant lot at the southern edge of the larger district. Although no developer was listed, the building’s design comes from local firm Pappageorge Haymes and its site plan approval indicates it will not have to seek a Plan Commission approval.

5440 N Sheridan Road Reaches Fourth Floor in Edgewater

Structural work has surpassed the fourth floor mark for a five-story residential building located at 5440 N Sheridan Road in Edgewater. Developer Cedar St. Companies has planned for a total of 78 rental units, distributed across 72 standard apartment layouts and six townhome-style layouts. The townhomes will be accessible from the street, and will each come with three bedrooms. The traditional-styled residences will consist of studios up through two-bedroom units.

Embry Breaks Ground in West Loop

Work has begun on a 15-story condominium building known as Embry, located at 21 N May Street in West Loop. The 207-foot-tall boutique tower will replace a pair of previously demolished masonry buildings along the relatively quiet May Street, just north of the busier Madison Street intersection. Given its height, the tower would have ranked 24th in Chicago YIMBY’s 2021 countdown of tallest construction developments.

City Council Approves New Pedestrian Streets In West Loop

The Chicago City Council has approved the rezoning parts of W Fulton Street and W Randolph Street in the West Loop. In the latest council meeting the body approved turning select stretches of both streets into pedestrian streets, however this does not imply that they will be closed to vehicular traffic. The designation which is applied to a variety of streets in the city, including 18th Street in Pilsen, redefines what projects that will abutt the streets will need to provide moving forward.
