Construction progress on the residential building at 629 West Lake Street in the West Loop has risen above street level. General contractor Chicago Common Partners has the Axios Architects-designed project going 3D on its way up to eight stories. The 49-unit apartment building will have 2,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, plus parking for two cars and 49 bicycles.
With caisson work having wrapped up already, crews have now begun construction at grade for the residential development at 629 West Lake Street in the West Loop. The permit to begin work, caissons and all, was issued to developer Fulton Market Suites LLC on December 9 of last year. Demolition of the site’s existing single-story restaurant building didn’t get started until January, but once it began, things moved along quickly, bringing us to the progress we saw last week.
The lot at Lake Street and Desplaines Avenue in the West Loop is ready for construction of a new residential development now that the Fast Track restaurant is gone. The single-story stalwart was permitted for demolition back in August of last year, but remained standing until January. Demo work was swift once it officially got started. Up next for the property is the eight-story, 49-unit apartment building at 629 West Lake Street from Fulton Market Suites LLC, with Chicago Common Partners handling general contractor duties.

Zoning variances have been approved for the mixed-use development at 629 W Lake Street in West Loop Gate. Located on the southeast corner with N Des Plaines Street in the interstitial neighborhood which is seeing a growth in demand for new residential options, it will replace the beloved casual Fast Track restaurant and its parking lot. The development team at the locally-operated Rogers Park Holdings LLC have partnered with Axios Architects and Consultants on its design.
