Construction progress continues for the new Kensington School early childhood education center in Wicker Park. Located at 1745 North Damen Avenue, the three-story, 25,000-square-foot building is a design by Charles Vincent George Architects. Along with daycare facilities, the center will also include art and music rooms, and a rooftop play area.

Kensington School also recently completed demolition of a former Boy Scouts of America office building at 1218 West Adams Street in the West Loop, where they plan to build another childhood education center. Like the Wicker Park branch, they hope to open the West Loop school in 2025.

Those wishing to use public transportation to get students to and from Kensington School, along with faculty and stuff, will find a Route 50 Damen bus just a block away. A three-block walk south leads to the Milwaukee/North/Damen junction and stops for the 56 and 72 buses, as well as the CTA Damen Blue Line station. For walkers and cyclists, the 606 Trail is less than a block north of the school.

  1. *Wicker Park / Bucktown. On their website they call it Bucktown, as do I, but I realize it’s a much-contested block.

    • You are correct on all counts. The site I use to determine neighborhoods locates this address in Wicker Park; for the purpose of consistency, that’s the neighborhood I’m using for it.
