Plans have been approved by the Chicago City Council for the Lawrence Gateway at 2919 W Lawrence Avenue in Ravenswood Manor. Located on the intersection with N Manor Avenue by Ronan Park, news on the project broke last year prior to submitting its zoning application this year. The development is being led by MAS Ventures LLC and Malek Abdulsamad while Wight & Company worked on its design.
Foundation work has begun for a new 12-story mixed-use building at 1730 S Wabash Avenue in South Loop. Replacing a former parking lot, the new project will yield 110 apartment units and an 80-car garage on the first and second floors. There will also be ground-floor commercial retail.
Foundation work is progressing at 919 W Fulton, an 11-story mixed-use development in Fulton Market. This building, developed by Fulton St. Co and JDL, will stand at a height of 172 feet and span 409,000 square feet. Its design primarily accommodates office space above ground-floor retail.
A planned 12-story hotel at 1528 N Wells Street in Old Town is once again progressing, as indicated by a recent demolition permit issued for the site’s remaining structure. The permit, granted at the beginning of this month, lists National Wrecking Company as the contractor and will involve the removal of a three-story building at 1520 N Wells Street. The replacement hotel, which received its initial foundation permit in 2022, will add 203 rooms along the Wells Street commercial corridor.
Further details have been revealed for the conversion of the Diplomat Motel at 5230 N Lincoln Avenue in Lincoln Square. Sitting on the northern edge of the neighborhood, we covered its initial city approval into transitional housing mid-last year. The project is being developed between the city and the Department of Public Health, with Gensler working on its design.
