Zoning has been initially approved for the new hotel project at 3257 N Halsted Street in Lake View. Located on the corner with W Aldine Avenue in the heart of Northalsted, the proposal received approval from both the Committee on Zoning and Alderman Lawson. The project is being developed by Allan O’Brien who owns Men’s Room Chicago nearby.
Progress is ongoing for a new entrance at the Racine Blue Line platform on the city’s Near West Side. The station, which lies between the inbound and outbound lanes of the Eisenhower Expressway and is two blocks west of the Morgan Street substation we looked at last week, is part of the CTA’s $3 billion plan to reconstruct the Forest Park Branch of the Blue Line system. The Racine renovation alone, which extends from Racine Avenue to the east to Loomis Street to the west, is estimated to cost approximately $23 million.
Plans have been revealed for the residential conversion of the remaining office floors within the Pittsfield Building at 55 E Washington Street in The Loop. Located on the corner with S Wabash Avenue, the art-deco meets gothic style skyscraper already contains units on some of its floors. Developer Tom Liravongsa is leading the new redevelopment efforts.
The tower crane is up at Aberdeen Crossing, as construction at grade continues on the West Town residential development. Wildwood Investments in building a seven-story, 99-unit apartment building at 1100 West Grand Avenue, designed by bKL Architecture. The ground floor will include 28 parking spaces, and about 1,700 square feet of commercial space.
Six permits were issued by the City of Chicago on March 10 to build affordable single-family residences on South Stark Street in Bridgeport. The homes are part of a larger development that has already seen several townhomes and standalone buildings on the block bound by Stark Street, Hillock Avenue, Throop Street, and the rail tracks. Skyriver Throop Development LLC is behind the project, which replaces a light industrial building demolished back in 2018. MPI Contracting is named in the permits as the general contractor.
