Initial details have been revealed for the potential hotel conversion of part of 875 North Michigan Avenue on the northern end of the Magnificent Mile. The iconic tower, commonly known as the John Hancock Center, is working on reimagining itself as it faces high vacancy rates like others in the surrounding area. The parking and office floors are owned by local firm Hearn.
Demolition work has begun as part of the redevelopment of the retail complex at 1800 North Clybourn Avenue in Lincoln Park. Sitting on the corner with North Sheffield Avenue, the project has been in the works for a few years and has been significantly downsized from its original iteration in 2024. Now, the team is moving forward with the revised plans.
The Chicago Committee on Zoning has approved the mixed-use proposal at 2652 West Chicago Avenue in West Town. Sitting on the corner with North Washtenaw Avenue, the project was revealed in 2025 and updated this past February. This was due to feedback from neighbors on the density, parking, and rental nature of the property, which spilled over into our comments.
Partial funding has been initially approved by the Community Development Commission for the first phase of Morgan Park Commons. Located at 11400 South Halsted Street in Morgan Park, the multi-phase development will replace a large vacant lot that formerly held a Jewel Osco shopping plaza on the corner with West 115th Street.
The Chicago City Council has approved funding for the mixed-use development at 132 North Kedzie Avenue known as Hub 32. Sitting at the intersection with West Lake Street within East Garfield Park, the project has been in the works for some years now as part of a multi-lot RFQ issued by the city. The fully affordable project would bring much-needed housing to the area.
