Drilling Begins for West Loop’s Embry Development

Caisson drilling has begun for the 15-story condominium high rise known as Embry, located at 21 N May Street in West Loop. This residential project by Sulo Development will house a total of 58 for-sale units, ranging from two- to four-bedroom residences and spanning from 1,828 and 5,187 square feet. This 207-foot-tall edifice will replace an empty lot that once housed a two-story masonry building.

Water Tower Place Changes Hands On Michigan Avenue

The famed Water Tower Place Mall at 835 N Michigan Avenue on the Magnificent Mile has been turned over to its lender. Located between E Chestnut Street and E Pearson Street just south of the John Hancock Tower, the retail location has occupied the full block site since the 1970’s. Most recently owned by New York-based Brookfield Properties who operate retail locations across the nation, the mall will now be in the hands of MetLife Investment Management which is a part of the insurance company.

Initial Details Revealed For A Residential Development At 5853 N Broadway In Edgewater

Initial plans have been revealed for an affordable residential development at 5853 N Broadway in Edgewater. Located just south of the intersection with W Thorndale Avenue, the project would replace an existing one-story masonry building and its parking lot adjacent to the Broadway Armory community center. The current structure is utilized by the Streets and Sanitation Department, who will vacate the property. Local developer Bickerdike Redevelopment Corporation is working with Landon Bone Baker Architects on the design of the new mid-rise.

Exterior Work Progresses for Morton Salt Adaptive Reuse in West Town

New walls, signage, and windows can be seen along the exterior of the former Morton Salt Factory in West Town, where developers R2 Companies, Blue Star Properties, and Skydeck have planned an adaptive re-use renovation. This revamped complex at 1357 N Elston Avenue will house a new entertainment venue inside the main shed, as well as supplementary R&D offices for Morton Salt in the old packaging buildings. Other changes include the removal of the east shed, a new one-story access corridor, and a new food stand within the former garage.
