Development Commission Approves Commercial Redevelopment At 5021 S Wabash Avenue In Grand Boulevard

The Chicago Community Development Commission has approved the sale and redevelopment of the existing structure at 5021 S Wabash Avenue in Grand Boulevard. Located just north of the intersection with E 51st Street, the proposal will expand the small streets and sanitation facility into a new culinary center. Developer Urban Equities won the city’s RFP earlier this year and has teamed up with local architecture firm SmithGroup on the restoration and modern design of the new elements.

Chicago YIMBY continues our Sister Cities series covering projects across the Midwest with a newly completed building in our closest neighbor city, Milwaukee. The predominantly residential structure at 700 E Kilbourn Avenue in the heart of downtown has become the world’s tallest mass-timber structure, placing the city at the heart of the discussion of future construction technologies. Developers New Land Enterprises and Wiechmann Enterprises partnered with architecture firm Korb + Associates on its design and Thornton Tomasetti on its engineering.

Plan Commission Approves Mixed-Use Development At 1043 N Rush Street In Near North Side

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved a new mixed-use building at 1043 N Rush Street in the Near North Side. Located just north of the intersection with E Oak Street, across the street from the wedge-shaped Mariano pocket park, the project replaces a similar existing structure holding the famed Carmine’s restaurant. Attempting to sell the property since 2015, developer L3 Properties recently bought it with plans to increase the overall active square footage on the site.
