Affordable Apartments For Middle-Income Proposed In Near North Side

Initial details have been revealed for a mixed-use development at 1549 N Fremont Street in the Near North Side. Located just south of the intersection with W North Avenue, the U-shaped structure will replace a surface parking lot surrounded by the multi-story Toyota dealership garage with an outer wall that partially collapsed this year after a windstorm. Local developer CityPads Chicago, responsible for other residential buildings in the city, is leading the project for which the architect is currently unknown.

Medical District’s The Lydian Takes 19th Place In Countdown

This year’s countdown continues with The Lydian at 513 S Damen Avenue in the Illinois Medical District taking the 19th place. The structure claimed the 19th place in last year’s countdown as well when it had recently broken ground, but now the development races towards completion just south of the intersection with W Congress Parkway. Local developer Marquette Companies, who is also behind a handful of projects around the West Loop’s Union Park, is leading the charge with architecture firm Brininstool + Lynch having worked on its design.

The Saint Grand Ranks 20th in Tallest Chicago Construction Projects

At number 20 in our year-end construction countdown is the 21-story mixed-use tower in Streeterville known as The Saint Grand. Formerly the site of a parking garage that was demolished this year, this project at 535 N St Clair Street is being developed by Mavrek Development. The 238-foot-tall structure will blend office space and 248 apartment units atop 7,855 square feet of commercial space.

Mixed-Use Redevelopment Proposed for Old Orchard Mall in Skokie

Initial details have been revealed for the mixed-use redevelopment of the Westfield Old Orchard mall in Skokie. Located in Chicago’s northern suburbs on the southwest corner of Old Orchard Road and Skokie Boulevard, the mall first opened its doors with Marshall Fields in 1956 and has been a staple for the local community ever since. Paris-based owner and developer Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield is leading the plans which mimic similar approaches at other malls in America as they pivot to capture new shoppers and tenants.
