The Chicago City Council has approved the rezoning of land for a mixed-use development at 901 N Halsted Street in Goose Island. The Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture-designed building will be the first phase of Halsted Pointe, a major planned development by Onni Group. Construction will begin in the first quarter of 2022, taking 24 to 30 months to complete.

The developer’s plans comprise of 22 total dwellings, ground-floor amenity space, and a rear parking lot with 21 parking spaces and one loading zone. The construction is set to replace a vacant grass lot, so no additional demolition permits are needed.

The National Parks service has opened The Pullman National Monument, Chicago’s first National Monument at 11001 S Cottage Grove Avenue in Pullman. Opening ceremonies for the complex took place over Labor Day weekend, a holiday which traces its origins back to the workers that made the Pullman Company into a passenger rail juggernaut with its iconic sleeper cars. The new monument is expected to attract over 300,000 yearly visitors and bring a major economic impact to the growing neighborhood.
