Initial renderings have been revealed for the commercial development at 1158 W 59th Street in Englewood. Located on the intersection with S Racine Avenue just south of the future Englewood Nature Trail, the new project will rehab the existing multi-story building on the site which once housed neighborhood staple Leon’s Bar-B-Q. Now the Resident Association of Greater Englewood (RAGE) plans to bring back dining to the location with a new design by local firm QORF Studios.

With its center located on the intersection with S Ashland Avenue the multi-building proposal won its Invest South/West bid back in 2021, now construction has been split into phases with the first two underway. Developers Celadon Partners and Blackwood Group worked with local architecture firm DesignBridge on the adaptive reuse and new construction proposal.

The property is home to a currently vacant lot that once house a three-story masonry building, which was torn down about one decade ago.

Initial details have been revealed for a new community center at 6020 S King Drive in Washington Park. Located on the intersection with E 60th Street on the southwest corner of Washington Park itself, the Sunshine Community Center will consume the majority of a vacant block with the exception of a structure at its southern end. The project is being developed by Sunshine Gospel Ministries who is working with Civic Projects Architecture and the Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives.
