Construction is underway on the affordable housing development at 1237 North California Avenue in Humboldt Park. The Hispanic Housing Development Corporation, a nonprofit developer, is building a six-story, 40-unit building here featuring one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom floor plans. The site had been vacant since 2019, when the former La Casa Puertorriqueña Puerto Rican community center was demolished.

Partial Funding Announced For 1237 N California Avenue In West Town

Potential partial funding has been announced for the affordable housing development at 1237 N California Avenue in West Town. Located on the intersection with W Crystal Street and across the street from Humboldt Park itself, the project will be replacing a now vacant lot. Efforts are being led by the Hispanic Housing Development Corporation with local-firm DesignBridge working on its design.

Western Facade Fills Out for Pedro Albizu Campos Apartments in Humboldt Park

Much of the facade has been installed along the western street wall of the Pedro Albizu Campos Apartments, located at 1203 N California Avenue in Humboldt Park. This nine-story affordable housing development occupies a previously vacant lot and spans a total of 83,000 square feet. The 95-foot building will yield 64 housing units on the upper floors and 2,500 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. Named after Puerto Rican activist Pedro Albizu Campos, the development is a collaborative project between the Hispanic Housing Development Corporation (HHDC) and Pappageorge Haymes.
