Much of the facade has been installed along the western street wall of the Pedro Albizu Campos Apartments, located at 1203 N California Avenue in Humboldt Park. This nine-story affordable housing development occupies a previously vacant lot and spans a total of 83,000 square feet. The 95-foot building will yield 64 housing units on the upper floors and 2,500 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. Named after Puerto Rican activist Pedro Albizu Campos, the development is a collaborative project between the Hispanic Housing Development Corporation (HHDC) and Pappageorge Haymes.
The design is characterized by a combination of brick and stone masonry, featuring a stone turret on the southwest corner and a mural on the north side. Common areas in the complex will include a second-floor outdoor terrace with gardening areas, a lobby, a community room, laundry facilities, and a fitness room. Additionally, there will be 19 parking spaces and bicycle storage for 49 bikes.
The location provides access to public transportation, including nearby CTA bus Routes 70 and 94, as well as Divvy bike stations and bike lanes.
Funded at $40 million, this Transit Oriented Development (TOD) has received support from the Department of Housing, the Chicago Housing Authority, Merchants Capital, and ComEd’s Affordable Housing New Construction program.
Path Construction Company is managing the construction of the project, which is expected to be completed and ready for occupancy later this year.

It’s coming together so nicely!
This is how “affordable” housing should look. Good job!
BETTER than the renderings!
Finally a development with neighborhood character. More of these.
Love this. No notes.
Hope the original people of Humboldt Park community have first picks and are fairly placed in this apartment complex.
I drive every morning down Division street and they have done a fabulous job.
