Salesforce Tower Nears Full Height as Countdown’s Third-Place Construction Project

At the confluence of the Chicago River, a 60-story office tower nears its full height. Salesforce Tower, the third tallest construction project in Chicago YIMBY’s year-end countdown, will eventually stand 835 feet above the river bank once it completes in 2023. Located at 333 W Wolf Point Plaza, the skyscraper will serve as the third and final addition to the Wolf Point masterplan in River North. This larger scheme is the site of a long-undeveloped parking lot that is owned by the Joseph P. Kennedy Family. Together with developer Hines, the two parties have planned three edifices on this parcel, just in front of the former Chicago Sun Times building.

City Announces Winners Of We Rise Together Grant

The seven winners of the We Rise Together grant have been announced across the south and west sides in predominantly Black and Latino communities. The $6.7 million grant is the result of a program from the Chicago Community Trust that began in 2020 as the pandemic disproportionately affected communities of color and is aimed at assisting the areas recover. Learning from the recession, the winners range from small businesses to new construction representing the resilience of all Chicago’s neighborhoods.

Work Resumes On 1000M , Countdown’s Fourth Tallest Development

Resuming into the fourth spot of the 2021 Chicago YIMBY’s year-end countdown is 1000 S Michigan Avenue otherwise known as 1000M in the South Loop. Topping out at a revised 805 feet tall, the tower is designed by prolific architect Helmut Jahn whose work includes the Thompson Center and passed away earlier this year in the suburbs. Developers Time Equities and JK Equities partnered on the skyscraper which recently secured financing to resume construction after stopping work early in the pandemic.

Jumping straight from the 500-foot-tall range and into the 700-foot-tall range is our construction countdown’s fifth-tallest entry, the 50-story 320 S Canal Street (BMO Tower) in West Loop Gate. Having topped out this past spring, this glass colossus has been co-developed by Riverside Investment & Development and Convexity Properties, rising 727 feet to its highest architectural point.
