Two demolition permits have been issued to get a new development started at 4529 North Western Avenue in Lincoln Square. When we visited the site last month, demolition fencing was already up in anticipation of work getting started. And now it officially can, with the City of Chicago permitting both teardown on Thursday, September 12.
New plans have been revealed for the multi-phase development at 1325 W Fulton Street within Fulton Market District. The block long site currently sits empty and has been in the hands of developer Sterling Bay since 2017. Now after a change in the market, the property will shift from offices to a multi-phase residential development in collaboration with Sulo Development.
Demolition of the former Chicago Tribune Freedom Center has begun, in earnest, along the Chicago River in West Town. With Bally’s Casino expected to open in 2026, there’s no time to waste, and Brandenburg Industrial Services has begun tearing into the old printing plant after receiving four demolition permits late last month to begin demo work. There is a lot of equipment on site, with piles of scrap and rubble already waiting to be sorted and hauled away.
A major donation has been made for a new wing of the Art Institute of Chicago at 111 S Michigan Avenue in The Loop. Located within Grant Park, the globally recognized museum is one nation’s largest and has been voted as one of the best in the world multiple years in a row. Now a $75 million donation will take it to the next level.
Details have been revealed for the first structure set to rise within the upcoming Riverline development at 1010 S Wells Street in the South Loop. Located south of the River City Apartments, Riverline was once part of a larger development that included what is now Southbank north of W Polk Street.
