The historic Illinois Bell Building, located at 225 W Randolph Street in The Loop, is finally set for renovation as scaffolding rises around the structure, signaling the imminent start of construction. The building, which has been granted landmark status and Class L tax incentive by the Chicago City Council, is being redeveloped by Onni Group, with work expected to reach completion for the revamped offices in 2024.
Structural work is now above ground for a new Class A office and laboratory building is coming to Evanston, situated at 710 Clark Street across from the Northwestern University campus. Evanston Labs, developed by Trammell Crow Company, will offer a high-tech environment for companies in fields such as biomedicine, nanotechnology, and neuroscience.
A final landmark recommendation has been made by the Commission on Chicago Landmarks for the Epworth Church at 5153 N Kenmore Avenue in Edgewater. Located south of the intersection with W Berwyn Avenue near Foster Beach, the structure’s landmark efforts were set off due to a demolition permit applied for last year by an undisclosed developer. Now the commission has recommended the approval of its landmark status to the church and adjoining community house.
A new residential development has received a permit at 1656 N Dayton Street in Lincoln Park. The project will be a three-story, three-unit masonry building with a basement and private roof deck. The listed owner of the project is Mateuz Bachula, whose plans will replace a former brick residence.
Digital Realty has presented a modified proposal for a data center at 321 E 21st Street, situated at the intersection of 21st & Calumet in South Loop. This project will occupy a currently empty plot next to the developer’s functioning data center at 350 E Cermak Road.
