The city has issued a demolition permit for a property at 1404 North Park Avenue in the Old Town neighborhood. The property, owned by the Catherine Cook School, houses a two-story residential building and a detached frame garage, both slated for removal.
Initial details have been revealed for a mixed-use development at 1840 N Marcey Street in Lincoln Park. Located just west of N Clybourn Avenue and across the river from Lincoln Yards, the proposal will replace a one-story commercial building adding on to the recently announced 2033 N Kingsbury Avenue. Similar to that project, this one is also being developed by Sterling Bay with local firm SCB working on its design.
JDL‘s expansive North Union development project in Near North Side has made headway, with construction now above grade at one of its first three buildings, the five-story 232 W Chestnut Street. Situated at the junction of N Franklin Street and N Wells Street, the residential project will be Chicago’s first modern large mass-timber construction. This innovative move marks a notable shift for Chicago since its adoption of the International Building Code (IBC).
A future single-story restaurant at 169 W Ontario Street in River North now sports new windows on both the front and rear facades. The building, formerly home to Al’s Beef from 1985 to 2020, is currently under renovation. Al’s Beef relocated just one block south to 548 N Wells Street.
The latest installment of the “Sister Cities” series focuses again on Milwaukee, where “The Couture” continues to rise at 909 E Michigan Street. Developed by Barrett Lo Visionary Development, the 44-story mixed-use project will soon be Wisconsin’s fourth tallest building and its tallest primarily residential development. Having now passed the halfway mark, the skyscraper will stand 516 feet tall, slightly taller than The Row Fulton Market as a Chicago height reference.
