Plan Commission Approves Medical Development At 4800 S Cottage Grove Avenue In Grand Boulevard

The Chicago Plan Commission has approved a new mixed-use medical facility at 4800 S Cottage Grove Avenue in Grand Boulevard. Located on the corner with E 48th Street, the new project replaces a large vacant lot surrounded by typical two-flats and some commercial low rises. The proposal was brought forward by Northwestern Medicine who is expanding with multiple south side locations and has tapped local design firms Lamar Johnson Collaborative and Brook Architecture on the sleek modern health center.

Development Commission Approves Commercial Redevelopment At 5021 S Wabash Avenue In Grand Boulevard

The Chicago Community Development Commission has approved the sale and redevelopment of the existing structure at 5021 S Wabash Avenue in Grand Boulevard. Located just north of the intersection with E 51st Street, the proposal will expand the small streets and sanitation facility into a new culinary center. Developer Urban Equities won the city’s RFP earlier this year and has teamed up with local architecture firm SmithGroup on the restoration and modern design of the new elements.

The predominantly residential structure at 700 E Kilbourn Avenue in the heart of downtown has become the world’s tallest mass-timber structure, placing the city at the heart of the discussion of future construction technologies. Developers New Land Enterprises and Wiechmann Enterprises partnered with architecture firm Korb + Associates on its design and Thornton Tomasetti on its engineering.
