The Prime Group’s 28-story hotel at 150 E Ontario Street is fast approaching structural completion in the Streeterville neighborhood. Slated to join the RIU Hotels and Resorts portfolio, the 345-foot edifice will feature 388 guest accommodations, complemented by an expansive lobby and an adjoining cafe positioned at the ground floor’s southeast corner.

Designed by Lucien LaGrange Studio, the building showcases a white masonry facade, lending it a contemporary yet classically-inspired aesthetic. Architectural nuances such as terraced setbacks, a bifurcated crown embellished with prominent cornices, and evenly spaced columns add to its distinct architecture.

Strategically located less than a block from Michigan Avenue, the development offers close access to various public transit options. Bus stops servicing Routes 2, 3, and 10 are situated within a block’s distance, and the CTA Red Line is accessible through an eight-minute walk southwest to Grand station.

W.E. O’Neil Construction Company is overseeing the project as the general contractor. The development is on track for completion by Q1 2024.

Glad there is new construction, substantial infill, wish the classism was a bit better, and will never get over the tacky red RIU. imagine the Plaza or the Drake with such a sign….

It’s like the W but resort style? It’s basically an over glamorized sex hotel for Boomers and Gen X’ers. The St. Reeg or J dub are def classier.

Cautiously optimistic about this one! The height really adds to the canyon effect on Ontario Street and looks awesome. The finish is meh. But the ground floor cafe + rooftop bar should add some nice energy to the area. I’m hopeful we’ll be pleasantly surprised.
I sympathize your cautious optimism, but my pre-construction skepticism of One Bennet turned me into a fangirl. I think that Lucien tends to have cartoonish ugly renderings that tend to outperform and actually standout in real life.
But One Bennet was AM Stern, not Lucien. There’s a gulf of difference between those two architects.
d’oh. Thanks for that correction. A gulf is correct, Stern is top notch, and that park is a masterpiece. Lucien did 2550 in Lincoln Park, and I do enjoy those row-homes on Deming, feels like I’m walking down a RH curated street.
