The project is an initiative of Sarah’s Circle, a non-profit organization established in 1979, dedicated to assisting women who are homeless or in need of a safe living environment.

Foundation work has begun for a 12-story building at 1630 South Wabash Avenue in South Loop, with pilings now being installed. This mixed-use development by CMK Companies, replacing a vacant lot directly east of the CTA tracks, will feature 149 rental units above ground-floor retail. A permit for the foundation and partial superstructure was issued in late October, followed by the issuance of the full permit in early December.

Neighborhood Meetings Held For Community Spaces Under Red Line

Initial neighborhood meetings have been held for the community spaces below the upcoming Red and Purple Line Modernization (RPM) across the north side. The project will run below and adjacent to the new track from W Lawrence Avenue in the south to W Ardmore Avenue in the north. Efforts are being led by the Chicago Transit Authority who brought on local firm Site Design Group to execute the work.
