Groundbreaking Ceremony Held For First Invest South/West Project In Auburn Gresham

A groundbreaking ceremony has been held for the mixed-use development at 757 and 838 W 79th Street in Auburn Gresham. The two-building project is located near the intersection with S Halsted Street and its construction is a major milestone as the first Invest South/West to come to fruition. Developers Evergreen Imagine were joined by the design team of Ross Barney Architects and Nia Architects along with other city representatives, including Mayor Lori Lightfoot, for the monumental moment.

Updated renderings have been revealed for the two-tower office development at 655 W Madison Street in West Loop Gate. Located just east of the Kennedy Expressway/I-90, the project plans to replace a large surface parking lot and joins various other proposals in the immediate area cashing in on their proximity to the Loop and West Loop. Chicago based developer the John Buck Company, who has managed the Willis tower in its past, is teaming up with local architecture firms HOK and JGMA on the design of the structure.

Extensive Structural Work Spotted at Sears Department Store Redevelopment in Portage Park

The former Sears department store site, located at 4712 W Irving Park Road in Portage Park has undergone extensive construction since YIMBY’s last update. With Novak Construction as developer and general contractor, a comprehensive demolition was carried out earlier this year, making way for a $90 million adaptive re-use project. The six-story development is one of several, including the recently-covered Clarendale Six Corners, meant to enliven the intersection of Milwaukee and Cicero Avenues and Irving Park Road. It should be noted however that, according to an article by Nadig Newspapers, the project did receive a stop-work order from the city this week for performing work outside the scope of issued permits.

Updated details have been revealed for a residential development at 5841 N Clark Street in Edgewater. Located north of the intersection with W Ardmore Avenue, the project replaces a small commercial and office building along with their shared parking lot built in the early 1900’s, all of which have recently been demolished and fenced off. Their replacement is being led by developer Anne Shutler who is working with SPACE Architects + Planners on the multi-unit building aimed at families.
