City Council Approves New Pedestrian Streets In West Loop

The Chicago City Council has approved the rezoning parts of W Fulton Street and W Randolph Street in the West Loop. In the latest council meeting the body approved turning select stretches of both streets into pedestrian streets, however this does not imply that they will be closed to vehicular traffic. The designation which is applied to a variety of streets in the city, including 18th Street in Pilsen, redefines what projects that will abutt the streets will need to provide moving forward.

Foundation Work Continues for New Computer Science Center at UIC Campus in Little Italy

Recent photos show structural work now rising above grade for University of Illinois Chicago‘s planned five-story computer science wing, known as the Computer Design Research And Learning Center. With work having commenced this past summer, the structure is set to replace a former parking lot at Little Italy‘s 900 W Taylor Street. This curvy addition will attach directly to the existing UIC Science and Engineering Labs building, while offering more than 135,00 square of new programming.

Inspire West Town’s Facade Takes Shape at 1140 W Erie Street

Cladding is closing in on completion for a new eight-story building located at 1140 W Erie Street in West Town. Dubbed “Inspire West Town,” this mixed-use project is set to house 113 rental apartments atop ground-level commercial space. Developer Bond Companies has planned for 23 total affordable units, six residences will be on site with the other 17 subsidized units within the surrounding area.
