The City of Chicago issued a permit on January 7 to allow for the construction of a three-story, three-unit building at 4920 North Whipple Street in the Albany Park neighborhood. Key Development, an LLC registered in Avondale, is named as the developer, with Hanna Architects listed as the architect of record.
Features will include a rear terrace on the first floor, with a stairway connecting decks on the two upper levels. The third floor will be topped by a roof deck, as will a detached three-car garage accessed from the alley connecting Ainslie and Argyle Streets at the back of the lot. Amazing City LLC of Lake Zurich is the general contractor, at an estimated construction cost of $1.44 million.
Amazing City was also named as the contractor in a demolition permit issued in November for a bungalow at the same address. Property records show that home was built in 1919, and sold in September 2024 for $287,500.
Residents of 4920 North Whipple will have a three-block walk to reach the Route 81 bus at Lawrence and Albany Avenues. Three blocks west is a northbound stop for the Route 93 California Dodge bus that runs into Evanston, then returns to Chicago along California Avenue. Stations for the Brown Line’s Kedzie and Francisco platforms are both within a half-mile walk south.
