Initial Funding Approved For Red Line Extension

The Chicago City Council has approved funding for the CTA Red Line Extension across the South Side. In the works for nearly 50 years, the extension would bring much needed transit from the current terminus of the line at 95th Street all the way down to 130th Street near Altgeld Gardens by Lake Calumet. Hoping to spur new economic development and connect more people to the city center, the project is being spearheaded by the CTA with help from Muller 2 Architects who also worked on the O’Hare Airport Terminal 5 expansion.

344 N Canal Street is Chicago’s Seventh Tallest Construction Project

Number seven in the year-end countdown is the 33-story mixed-use tower prepping to rise at 344 N Canal Street in Fulton River District. The Habitat Company and Diversified Real Estate Capital LLC are behind the 375-foot-tall structure, located on the former site of the five-story Cassidy Tire building. The high rise replacement, dubbed “Cassidy on Canal”, will provide 343 apartments on its upper floors, with ground-floor retail space available as well.

New School Proposed At 6801 N California Avenue In West Ridge

Details have been revealed for a new school and dormitory at 6801 N California Avenue in West Ridge on the Far North Side. Located on the corner with W Pratt Boulevard not too far from the famed W Devon Avenue strip, the new school is being built by the Lubavitch Mesivta of Chicago and replacing an existing one-story strip mall recently purchased to be torn down. The Mesivta, or secondary school, is working with a local architect to construct the Yeshiva building, or school building.

New Permits Issued for 2487 North Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square

A permit was issued yesterday for a new four-story mixed-use building to be located at 2487 North Milwaukee Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood. The owners are listed as Development Group and plans indicate this project will result in six total units and retail on the first floor. There will be rear porches on the second through fourth floors. For parking, there will be a one-vehicle garage on the first-floor level and a detached two-vehicle garage with its own roof deck. This development will replace a parking lot.
