Chicago’s tower crane count to begin August 2024 took a slight dip from July, now that the machine that building Hyde Park Labs has been taken down. That leaves eight cranes in the air as summer continues. There is one pending permit, and it’s for Google’s Thompson Center renovation in The Loop.
A permit for new construction has been issued for a property located at 4348 South Berkeley Avenue in Kenwood. The permit, which was applied for on April 25 and issued on July 26, allows for the erection of a new three-story apartment building with a basement, consisting of two dwelling units and one detached garage for two parking spaces located on the same lot.
The Chicago City Council has approved the mixed-use development at 345 N Aberdeen Street in Fulton Market District. Announced earlier this year, the project will replace the former Cougle Commission Factory on the intersection with W Carroll Avenue. The property is currently owned by Sterling Bay who pursued the approval as part of a sales package for the site.
At 1352 West Diversey Parkway in Lake View, a new four-story, three-unit residential building is in the midst of construction. The project, from Chicago-based Halcyon Development Group, replaces a three-story frame residence demolished in 2022. That building, constructed in the 1910s, was addressed as 1354 West Diversey.

The permit, which was applied for on June 24 and issued on July 25, allows for the construction of a two-story, three-unit residential building with a basement, rear porches with stairs at the first and second stories, and three exterior parking spaces on a concrete pad.
