A new construction permit has been issued to allow for a 36-unit apartment building on the northeast corner of Clark Street and Leland Avenue in Uptown. Using the address of 4713 North Clark, the City of Chicago released the permit on January 6, 2025. The residential development replaces a single-story masonry building most recently home to Byline Bank. That structure was permitted for demolition in February 2022, then demolished in January of 2023.

Church of Our Saviour is working with Care for Friends, a community partner, on the new addition.

Crain’s Chicago Business has reported that the property on which the historic Holy Angels School in Bronzeville has stood for more than a century has been put back on the market, potentially saving the building from demolition. A pending construction permit with an application date of November 2, 2023 calls for a four-story, 48-unit residential development on the site, which would lead to the empty structure being demolished.

Sitting on the corner with W Polk Street and set to replace a surface parking lot, the project was originally announced a year ago as the area around the Illinois Medical District continues to grow. Just down the street, 701 S Western scored a demo permit to make way for another new structure.

Located on the southeast corner of Western and Flournoy Street on the Near West Side, all five commercial spaces in the building appear to have been unoccupied for quite some time. The teardown directive was issued with B & K Concrete 1 named as the demo contractor, at an estimated cost of $45,000.

The two multi-unit residences were sold by a private seller this past summer, according to 2832-2834racine.com, a website set up for the two properties. Real estate records show the entity of 2834 Racine LLC as the buyer, who in turn is listed in both demolition permits as the property owner. Tir Conaill Concrete was assigned as the demo contractor.
