City Council Approves Bronzeville Lakefront Megadevelopment At Former Michael Reese Hospital Site In Bronzeville

The Chicago City Council has approved the Bronzeville Lakefront Megadevelopment planned for the former Michael Reese Hospital site in Bronzeville. The 71-acre site spans from E 26th Street to E 31 Street north to south, and from S Martin Luther King Drive to S Lake Park Avenue west to east respectively. The plan comes from a development team called GRIT Chicago, composed of Farpoint Development, Loop Capital, Draper & Kramer, Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives, McLaurin Development, and Bronzeville Community Development Partnership.

Remaining facade pieces are undergoing installation at The Bentham, a 14-story retail and condominium building that is now wrapping up at 146 W Erie Street in River North. Sedgwick Development is acting as the developer, architect, and general contractor for the project, which will provide 2,556 square feet of retail and 31 condominiums. Beginning at just over $1 million, each condominium will house three bedrooms and three bathrooms, and will come with open floor plans, floor-to-ceiling windows, private elevator access, and private balconies.

Construction permits have been issued for a new four-story residential building at 1423 W Huron Street in West Town. The owner is listed as Wentworth 50 LLC, whose plans will include a four-bedroom duplex basement and ground-level unit, a two-bedroom single-floor unit above, and a three-bedroom duplex at the top. This second duplex will house the majority of the living space on its first level, while the second level will be occupied by two private rooftop deck areas, between which is small penthouse enclosure containing the duplex’s third bedroom and bath.
