The new DePaul University Sports Facility is taking a step forward with Alderman Approval at 2300 N Sheffield Avenue in Lincoln Park. Located near the intersection with W Belden Avenue, the project has been at the center of much controversy as plans call for the structure replacing multiple residential buildings owned by the university and commonly used for student housing.
Foundation work has begun for a new residential building at 3015 North Southport Avenue in Lake View. Taking over a surface parking lot, the new development will consist of seven dwelling units in a five-story structure. A new construction permit was issued for the property on September 6 of this year, showing Chicago’s Advent Properties as the developer. The permit was issued after amendments were approved to increase parking and decrease setbacks.
A new construction permit has been issued for a two-story athletic center located at 6121 South Stony Island Avenue in Woodlawn. The permit, which is currently in an active status with fees due, was applied for on May 24 and issued on September 26, with a total processing time of 125 days. The athletic center is a component of the broader Obama Presidential Center development.
Work is set to commence for the residential conversion of the former Charles Earle Elementary School at 6121 S Hermitage Avenue in West Englewood. Sitting on the corner with W 61st Street, the school closed in 2013 with plans for its conversion dating back to 2017.
